Review of Women’s Ministry Questionnaires

     Introduction

Questionnaires were distributed at the first Women’s Ministry event “Talking Teacups” on January 17, 2009. There
were 55 women at the event and 26 questionnaires filled out (19 were signed).  The purpose of the questionnaire
was to collect views on how Women’s Ministry is to be developed at FBC.  Information was received on possible
Goals and Activities for the ministry and the Resources that the women might bring. Some specific
personal needs were also identified.

The main themes that came through were:

                   Building Christian Friendships

                   Spiritual Formation and Growth

Acts of Kindness within and outside FBC

                   Sharing our Faith

     Building Christian Friendships

Many women see the need to create group settings that provide an environment for women to get to know each
other on a personal level.  Suggested activities that would accomplish this goal are:  Spa event (manicures,
pedicures, and hand massage), craft groups (knitting, crochet, quilting, and scrapbooking), cooking groups
(nutrition, meal planning, and cookie exchange), tea parties or luncheons, walking group, slumber party,  clothing
exchange, and “Guess Who’s Coming for Dinner”.

A number of the women mentioned that they have personal skills and resources that they can bring to organize
and lead these kinds of groups and activities.

     Spiritual Formation and Growth

A strong theme is for women to help one another to understand how God works in our lives and to apply these
principles personally.  This could come from learning our gifts and calling and by increasing our knowledge of the
scriptures.  Suggested activities that would accomplish this goal are; the “Gifted and Called” weekend, book
discussion group, Bible Studies, retreats, speakers and prayer partners. Mentoring was also mentioned as an
activity that would apply in this area.

Some of our women indicated that they can bring personal resources to help meet this goal.

     Acts of Kindness

The women’s desire to reach out with acts of kindness was another common theme.  This goal results both from
women’s personal abilities their desire to show Christian love (service).  Many activities were mentioned: support
groups for single Moms and divorcees, visitation, meeting the needs of the frail elderly, mission projects, soup
kitchen help, Christmas SA Kettles and meal planning and budgeting.

A few women indicated their capabilities in this area.

     Sharing Our Faith

There was an expressed need to “tell our story” personally and to have projects that reach out globally.  The Tuni
project of Women in Focus is an example.  Women want to use their abilities in music, drama and public speaking
to share their faith.

It was noted that the Friendship activities could also be opened to non-Christians to create an opportunity to
share our faith.
